TE 802: Reflection and Inquiry in Teaching Practice I
S. Pylman and A. Ward
I took this course during my internship year with Michigan State University (MSU). The purpose was to learn about reading comprehension and how things like decoding, fluency, and vocabulary contributed to it. We focused on selecting appropriate texts for certain students and/or classrooms and writing cohesive reading unit plans. We implemented the unit plans we created and reflected on our execution.
Spring 2016
TE 803: Professional Roles and Teaching Practice II
Y. Hung and M. Pierce
This course was also taken during my internship year with MSU. In it, we focused on creating a cohesive social studies unit plan. My unit specifically focused on economics. I then had to teach the unit I created and reflect on its efficacy.
TE 804: Reflection and Inquiry in Teaching Practice 2
T. Bennett
This was the final course I took during my internship year that transferred as credit to my Master’s degree. In this course we focused on creating and implementing a science unit. My unit focused on the moon phases. After teaching, I was required to reflect on its efficacy.
Summer 2019
CEP 810: Teaching for Understanding with Technology
M. Wever
In this course we learned about Punya Mishra’s TPACK model. This model explained that technology, pedagogy, and teacher content knowledge all worked together to create understanding. The importance of choosing the right technologies for certain tasks was emphasized. We participated in assignments that helped us experience difficulty when the inappropriate tools or technologies were selected.
CEP 812: Applying Educational Technology to Issues of Practice
E. Stone and B. Dillman
This was one of my favorite courses. I learned a lot about how to select and use technology to help solve problems within my teaching practice. Particularly, I identified students' inability to self-regulate and researched what type of technologies could help alleviate this problem. I implemented some of the technologies I found in my own classroom, and did have some success.
Fall 2019
CEP 818- Creativity in Teaching and Learning
M. Cosby and S. Mehta
This course challenged my creative side. Assignments included analysis of images to support a topic or idea, creating collages to represent ideas, and analyzing our favorite pieces of literature through images and words. I am a very analytical thinker so this course posed some difficulty. After taking this course, I found that I have had an easier time recognizing more creative points of view.
Spring 2019
CEP 800- Psychology of Learning in School and Other Settings
B. Dillman and M. Schell
In this course the different ways of learning were discussed. Specifically, how some are intentional while others are not. We also focused on how to support learning and how individual motivations and efforts play into retention. This has helped with my teaching practice in that it has drawn my focus to the individual learner as issues arise.
Summer 2020
CEP 815- Technology and Leadership
C. Robertson and K. Shack
In this course we discussed how we are leaders within our professional practice. Further, we discussed and created professional development activities. In particular, I worked with the issue of students misuse of technology in school and how to alleviate it. We also focused on how to teach students to become responsible digital citizens.
Fall 2020
CEP 822- Approaches to Educational Research
M. Lachney and M. Schell
In this course I learned about different types of research methods and how to analyze them. I did a lot of research on my chosen topic of problem-based learning and its effectiveness in the classroom. I also focused on researching teacher attitudes in this course. I created a survey that would help gain insight into this question.
Spring 2021
CEP 807- Capstone in Educational Technology
Dr. A. Koehler and A. Gaunt
In this course I refined my online portfolio and added some elements that gave it more of a personal touch. I participated in peer feedback to revise all aspects of my portfolio. Near the end of the course, I participated in a "portfolio exhibition" where I zoomed Dr. Koehler and three peers to give and receive any last advice. I found it very helpful.
