In my particular school district, teachers are required to complete a Student Learning Objective (SLO) every year where a particular skill is measured in a particular set of students. This evaluation can affect employment for the following year, however teachers must work with the levels they are given, which are sometimes much lower than grade level. I created a survey I hoped would illustrate the general attitude of teachers toward the SLO. This shows my desire and ability to support my coworkers in an effective manner using actual data.

I am very interested in using different teaching methods in the classroom, such as problem-based learning, because in my opinion the 21st century learner needs a different skill set than other learners have historically. To the left is a picture of one of the articles from an annotated bibliography of research I did pertaining to problem-based learning. This artifact shows that I can find credible research and apply it to my practice.

I used some of the research I found in my annotated bibliography above to complete this lesson plan where I had students use a technology tool to recreate a Medi-Talker like the one discussed in the book we were reading at the time. They had to use problem solving skills and work as a team. This shows that I can use research, analyze it, and apply it to my practice successfully.

I created this blog post about what I think it means to be a 21st century learner based on research I found. It focuses on the fact that it is vital that these learners can problem solve and critically think. This artifact shows that I believe it is necessary for educators to evolve and adapt to the current situation in which they are teaching. It is important to be able to make necessary changes to my practice.

I mentioned in the introduction of this page that I did quite a bit of research surrounding self-regulation in the classroom. This blog post details an idea that I had that could give students a break from academia and a time to be mindful. This artifacts shows that I can identify my issues of practice and come up with creative solutions to help alleviate them.

I learned about wicked problems, which are problems that do not have one right solution, and I decided that my problem of self-regulation in the classroom was exactly that. In this blog post I detail how I really delved in to trying to come up with multiple solutions. This artifact shows that I can identify a wicked problem and consider many possible solutions. This also shows that I am invested in finding the best way to manage an issue in the classroom.

I decided to take my problem of self-regulation in the classroom a step further by creating a survey and administering it to some colleagues. This blog post details my findings. This artifact shows that I am interested in finding out if my issue of practice affects others, and that I can find concrete way to do it.

Using all of the research I have done on self-regulation in the classroom, I came up with the idea to implement a professional development workshop for teachers and students. This workshop is designed to help students empathize with teachers, and vice versa. This artifact shows that I can think outside of the box. I can critically think and come up with a creative solution to a problem.
